Insurance Policy for Unic (London Ride-Sharing)

  1. Introduction

At Unic, the safety of our passengers, drivers, and the public is our top priority. To ensure full compliance with Transport for London (TfL) regulations and prevent fraudulent insurance practices, we have set strict insurance requirements for all drivers operating on our platform.

This policy applies to:

  • Drivers who wish to register their vehicle on Unic.
  • Insurance providers that wish to be recognized and accepted on our platform.

Failure to comply with this policy may result in suspension or removal from the Unic platform.

  1. Driver Insurance Requirements

All drivers on Unic must have an active and valid hire & reward (H&R) insurance policy that meets the following criteria:

  • Private Hire Vehicle (PHV) Insurance – The policy must explicitly cover private hire use (social, domestic, pleasure, and private hire).
  • Minimum Coverage Limits – The insurance must meet or exceed TfL’s requirements for PHV operators.
  • Named or Fleet Policy – Drivers must have an individual policy in their name or be covered under a fleet policy issued by an approved provider.
  • Policy Validity – The insurance policy must be valid at all times while operating on the platform.
  • Real-Time Verification Compliance – Insurance providers must support real-time policy verification to confirm active coverage.
  • No Expired or Suspended Policies – Drivers must renew their policy before expiration and notify us immediately if their policy is cancelled.

2.1 Proof of Insurance Submission

Drivers must submit the following documents when registering:

  • A valid insurance certificate clearly stating “Private Hire Vehicle” coverage.
  • A policy schedule showing start date, expiry date, and vehicle details.
  • A Motor Insurance Database (MID) check confirmation (if requested).

All documents will be subject to fraud detection, OCR scanning, and real-time verification. Any altered, forged, or invalid documents will result in immediate suspension and potential legal action.

  1. Approved Insurance Providers

To maintain high standards and fraud prevention, Unic will only accept insurance policies issued by providers that meet the following conditions:

  • Licensed & Recognized by UK Authorities – The insurer must be fully authorized to issue Private Hire Vehicle (PHV) insurance in London.
  • API Integration for Real-Time Verification – Insurers must provide a secure API or digital system that allows us to check the status of a driver’s policy in real-time.
  • Automated Policy Updates – The insurer must notify us if a policy is canceled, expired, or modified.
  • Digital Certificates Only – We do not accept handwritten or manually generated insurance documents.
  • Transparent Claims Process – The insurer must have a clear and efficient claims process to ensure that drivers and passengers are protected in case of an accident.

Insurance providers that do not meet these requirements will not be accepted on our platform.

Insurance companies that wish to be added to our platform must contact insurance@unictechnologies.co.uk with proof of compliance.

  1. Continuous Monitoring & Compliance Checks

To prevent fraud and unauthorized activity, we conduct regular compliance checks on all registered drivers and insurers.

  • Automated Monthly Insurance Checks – We verify active policies every 30 days.
  • Immediate Policy Cancellation Alerts – If an insurance provider informs us that a policy has been cancelled, the driver will be suspended until a new policy is uploaded.
  • Random Manual Audits – Our compliance team may request additional proof of insurance at any time.

Failure to comply will result in permanent removal from Unic and possible reporting to TfL.

  1. Fraud Prevention & Strict Consequences

We take insurance fraud seriously. The following actions will result in an instant ban from our platform:

  • Submitting fake, altered, or expired insurance documents.
  • Using another driver’s insurance policy.
  • Cancelling an insurance policy while still driving for Unic.
  • Providing false information about policy coverage.

🚨 If fraud is detected, we will report the driver to Transport for London (TfL) and take legal action if necessary.

  1. How to Stay Compliant
  • Always maintain an active insurance policy that meets our requirements.
  • Renew on time to avoid service interruptions.
  • Use only approved insurance providers for a seamless verification process.
  • Respond to compliance checks and audits when requested.
